Eighteen young migrants, mostly from Kasba Tadla, perished in the sinking of their boat heading for the Canary Islands, plunging the whole city into mourning.

This tragedy comes to put an end to the electoral campaign which is in full swing in the region, reports the newspaper Al Massae, adding that several political parties have decided to temporarily suspend their activities in solidarity with the families of the victims.

According to accounts, the inflatable boat that left Agadir to reach the Canary Islands capsized, causing the drowning of all its occupants, including 8 girls and 10 boys from the Kasba Tadla region.

In the face of outrage, the Federation of the Democratic Left (FGD) parties expressed their sadness on their Facebook page. “The FGD offers its condolences to the families of the victims who, she says, chose the boats of death to flee the misery they suffered in their country and particularly in their city”.

In the same vein, the leadership of the United Socialist Party (PSU) has not minced words by accusing local development programs that do nothing to avoid these tragedies. “We must stop playing with the lives of our children, squandering public money, promoting corruption and enriching the rich at the expense of these young martyrs,” she wrote.
