The Moroccan army has sent nearly twenty modernized vehicles to Kyiv, while the Kingdom of Morocco has so far adopted a generally cautious and neutral position during the votes of resolutions hostile to Russia at the UN

Morocco has sold an unknown number of T-72B tanks to be modernized in the Czech Republic and deployed in Ukraine, media reported on Sunday.

According to a generally very well-informed Algerian media Menadefense, the Moroccan army sent nearly 20 vehicles to the battlefield last week. They would have been modernized by the Czech company Excalibur Army in the Czech town of Sternbeck.

The United States has promised financial assistance to countries that decide to get rid of their Russian or Soviet military equipment. The report suggests that Moroccan T-72s sent to Ukraine could be replaced later by M1 Abrams from US military surplus.

Rabat’s decision to deliver weapons to Ukraine was made during the April 2022 Ramstein Air Base Summit on Ukraine hosted by the United States. Tunisia and Morocco were the only two countries representing North Africa at the event.

Kyiv has been pushing its European allies to provide much-needed tanks for months, but the latest meeting of Western defense officials in Ramstein failed to reach an agreement on the issue. Germany is reluctant to give consent to Poland and other countries to deploy its Leopard tanks to Kyiv until the United States sends its Abrams first.
