Morocco hosted its very first electronic game fair in Rabat, an event that brought together developers, startups, and video game enthusiasts.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the Morocco Gaming Expo aimed to boost the emerging gaming industry in the country. The event, comprised of four main sections, provided an exhibition platform bringing together over 70 exhibitors, startups, and game developers, as well as a conference series bringing together 50 industry experts.

“This show constitutes an important step for the development of the gaming industry in Morocco,” declares Nissrine Souissi, director of the Morocco Gaming Expo. “Our objective is to familiarize the public with the potential of the electronic games sector and to encourage exchanges and cooperation between local and international players.”

One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Takaya Imamura, a famous independent video game developer, and artist with 30 years of experience at Nintendo. Imamura delighted fans by signing cards and sharing his expertise during question-and-answer sessions.

“I am impressed by the enthusiasm and interest in the gaming industry in Morocco,” says Imamura. “There is real potential for innovation and creativity here.”

The event also provided an opportunity for investment firms to explore partnership opportunities with local gaming startups. “We are excited to explore partnership opportunities with emerging players in the gaming industry in Morocco,” said a representative of an investment company present at the show.

The Morocco Gaming Expo was also an opportunity for the ministry to announce the upcoming creation of the Rabat Cité du Jeu which should open its doors in September 2025. This project aims to bring together key players in the gaming industry and attract foreign investments in the country.

“The Rabat Gaming City will be a dynamic hub of innovation and collaboration in the video game sector,” says Souissi. “We look forward to seeing how this ecosystem will drive the growth of the industry in Morocco.”

The Morocco Gaming Expo took place from May 24 to 26 and marked an important milestone in the development of the country’s electronic gaming industry.
