The National Coordination of Contract Teachers announced on Sunday its decision to extend its national strike for a week. In a press release, the body explained that in parallel with its national mobilization scheduled for March 2, 3 and 3 in Rabat by activists, the state has “pursued its policies of repression and tyranny against all peaceful demonstrations”.

The same source affirms that this mobilization was the subject of “strong repression, which caused serious injuries” in the ranks of contract teachers, of whom “several were arrested” by the authorities. The statement said that among the 100 teachers arrested, 25 were taken into custody by “vexatious prosecution”.

Faced with these facts considered by the coordination as an “attack targeting national education personnel” as well as the “determination of the State to humiliate” this category and “undermine its dignity”, it thus announces the extension of the general strike from March 7 to 20, with several forms of protest.

Thus, the Coordination will carry out this Monday a “media campaign” with photos and videos that document the repression and arrests among the ranks of contract teachers. Thursday, March 10, sit-ins will be organized in front of the courts of first instance to denounce the trials aimed, according to her, at the militants of the coordination.

On Wednesday, contract teachers staged a massive protest sit-in outside the Ministry of National Education, marked by calls for integration into the civil service without restrictions or conditions. According to the coordination, the security forces intervened to disperse the demonstrators as they tried to move from the headquarters of the Ministry of National Education towards the Parliament building.
