Spanish photojournalist David Melero was expelled from Morocco after trying to interview Sahrawi activist Sultana Khaya.

David Melero was reportedly detained for hours by around 30 Moroccan secret service agents, before being forcibly taken in a taxi to the airport for his expulsion from the kingdom, Catalunya Press reported. He is accused of having tried to interview Sultana Khaya, the Sahrawi human rights activist.

The Spanish photojournalist denounced the violence suffered during the taxi ride and stressed that he would have received threats from Moroccan agents who would have accused him of being a terrorist.

Upon his arrival at Barcelona-El Prat International Airport at 7 p.m., where demonstrators and the media are expected to expect him, Melero announced that he will speak out to denounce the human rights violations suffered by Sultana Khaya and his misadventure.
