Yair Lapid, Israeli Foreign Minister, has confirmed that he will travel to Morocco for an official visit, the first for a senior Israeli diplomat.

Speaking at a Yesh Atid party meeting in the Knesset, Y. Lapid said the “historic” trip will take place after direct flights between Rabat and Tel Aviv resume at the end of the month.

As a reminder, the start of these direct flights is scheduled for Sunday, July 25, 2021. Two planes from Israeli airlines will land in Marrakech, with nearly 400 Israeli tourists on board. They will make the Tel Aviv-Marrakech trip aboard two planes of the companies El Al and Israir.

“After my trip to Morocco, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, will come to visit Israel to open a representative office there,” Lapid said.

According to AXIOS, the Israeli MFA’s visit to Morocco would take place between August 10 and 11. “Negotiations” are underway to transform the liaison offices into “full-fledged embassies”, the American news site has again revealed.
