Algeria has officially reacted to the opening of a United Arab Emirates consulate in the occupied Sahrawi city of Laâyoune. Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum recalled on Sunday November 1 that the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) was a member of the African Union (AU) and enjoyed “full sovereignty over its territories”.

Asked by the press as he left a polling station in Algiers, Sabri Boukadoum said that the opening of an Emirati consulate in Western Sahara was at odds with international law. “In view of international law, the Sahrawi Republic is a member of the African Union and has full sovereignty over its territories,” he recalled.

The Algerian foreign minister added: “Algeria has its policy, it does not insult, it does not call out. She goes ahead, without worrying about others. We have our principles and we will not abandon them. We are not afraid of anyone “. The statement by the Algerian official comes in response to the violation of international law in Western Sahara, through the opening of consulates in the territories occupied by Morocco.

In addition, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric declared, Thursday, October 29, that the opening of “consulates” in the occupied Sahrawi territories would not change the position of the international organization vis-à-vis – view of the Sahrawi question. For the United Nations, the Saharawi question is a matter of decolonization, which has been on its agenda since 1963, and the settlement of which involves access for the Saharawi people to their right to self-determination and independence.
Will Morocco normalize its relations with Israel?

It should be noted that the UAE’s decision to open diplomatic representation with Morocco in the occupied territories of Western Sahara was somewhat predictable. The Emirates are the first Arab League country to announce the normalization of its relations with Israel.

Morocco, which has not communicated anything on the matter, is said to be among the countries that will soon normalize relations with Israel. The announcement was made by Israeli Intelligence Minister Eli Cohen. The latter reveals that the list of “Arab” countries which will soon normalize their relations with the Hebrew state are five in number. In addition to the Sharifian kingdom, the Israeli diplomat cites Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Niger.
