127,000 children are engaged in economic activity at the end of 2022

The High Commission for Planning in Morocco (governmental) has called for an end to child labor, despite a drop of 14%, or 127,000 children in 2022.

This is according to a statement issued Monday by the High Commissioner, on the occasion of the International Day for the Fight against Child Labor, which coincides with June 12 each year.

The Moroccan institution added that among the 7,690,000 children aged 7 to 17, are in the world of work, which represents 1.6% of this age group, in 2022.

The statement also adds that 6 out of 10 children perform dangerous work.

The phenomenon of working children is more widespread among boys than among girls due to school dropouts, according to the same source.

“The number of working children fell by 14% in 2022 compared to the previous year,” the same source said.

According to the Commissariat au Plan in Morocco, this phenomenon is concentrated in the sectors of agriculture, services and industry.
