With more than 20,000 people on the Champs Elysées in France, out to celebrate Morocco’s victory, the police soon found themselves overwhelmed. Indeed, clashes took place between the two camps with mortar fire against the police who were forced to respond with tear gas. Individuals also allegedly looted a construction site, which provided them with projectiles to throw at the police.
Morocco supporters also armed themselves with metal bars and fireworks, threatening the deployed forces. The latter had to carry out charges to evacuate the troublemakers. According to the newspaper Le Figaro, no less than 36 arrests were made on the evening of December 10 in Paris.
