Mediterranean Wrestling Championships (juniors-seniors): Algeria wins 21 medals, including 11 gold

ALGIERS- The Algerian senior and junior wrestling team (boys and girls) won 21 medals overall (11 gold and 10 silver) at the Mediterranean Wrestling Championships, which wrapped up Sunday in Madrid, Spain.

Senior wrestlers claimed seven medals (2 gold and 5 silver) in men’s freestyle event. The gold medals were snatched by Amar Laissaoui (57 Kg) and Fares Lakel (61 Kg), while the five silver medals were claimed by Kateb Salaheddine (57 Kg), Sayeh Abderrahmane (61 Kg), Iften Zoheir (61 Kg), Boudraa Mohamed (70 Kg) and Boudina Mohamed (74 kg).

In female wrestling, Yahiaoui Chaimaa (53 Kg) and Boukrif Houria (69 kg) won a gold medal each, while Salaouendji Hanene (48 Kg) and Benabderrahmane Amina (60 Kg) got a silver medal each.

In junior boys’ freestyle wrestling, Kateb Salaheddine (55 Kg), Fares Lakel (60 Kg) and Ishak Boukhors (66 Kg) won a gold medal each.

In Greco-Roman events, Algerian junior wrestler Kebaili Moutaleb (50 Kg) snatched the gold, while Sadoudi Ghiles (66 Kg) and Doulache Chawki (74 Kg) got a silver medal each, whereas Naanaa Mourtada (55 Kg) ranked 8th.

In female wrestling, Algerian junior girls claimed four medals: three gold won by Hanene Salouendji (44 Kg), Yahiaoui Chaimaa (48 Kg) and Lina Khelal (63 Kg), and one silver by Amel Hamiche (68 Kg).

Twenty Algerian senior and junior wrestlers participated in the Mediterranean championships in Madrid.
