The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Friday the disappearance of a boat carrying around 500 migrants in the Mediterranean.

IOM official Flavio Di Giacomo said in a tweet that “no information was available on the fate of the boat carrying 500 migrants”.

He added that “emergency teams were continuing their efforts to search for the boat and the migrants”, calling for the provision of “necessary support to carry out the operation”.

In the same context, several civil organizations, led by the Italian emergency service, have announced their participation in the search efforts to find the missing boat.

The civil organization “Alarm Phone” announced on Twitter that it had received a distress call from a migrant boat last Tuesday.

The organization said the boat set out from Libya carrying 500 migrants, and its engine broke down and washed away, calling for help for the migrants.
