The direct commercial maritime line between Algeria and Mauritania is now operational. Yesterday, the ship “Imedghassen” docked at the port of Nouakchott, with construction equipment made in Algeria on board, indicates the official AMI press agency.

Representatives of the Mauritanian government made the trip to the port to accommodate this first trip. Among them, the director of foreign trade at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mohamed El Amine Ould Fayeda. The latter welcomed the level of cooperation between his country and Algeria in statements to the press. And to include this maritime line within the framework of the objectives of the African continental free trade area, which entered into force on January 1, 2021.

The charge d’affaires at the Algerian embassy in Nouakchott was also present to welcome the “Imedghassen”. The shipping line aims to make rotations between Algiers and Nouakchott every twenty days.

The opening of this line comes almost three years after the inauguration, in August 2018, of the Tindouf-Zouerate border crossing.
