Islets claimed by Morocco: Madrid takes new measures

The Spanish Ministry of Defense has launched a vast plan to renew the installations of the Spanish islets located in the Mediterranean and claimed by Morocco. An initiative that the press, resistant to the rapprochement between Morocco and Spain, considers as directed against Rabat.

The Spanish armed forces want to equip the islets bordering Morocco with new defense systems. Thus, the Spanish military detachments of the rock Vélez de la Gomera, Badis on the Moroccan side, and the Chafarinas islands, known as Jaâfaria, will see their defensive capabilities improved. “ A little more protected against Morocco,” rejoices the news site OK Diario, which hardly hides its hostility towards the Kingdom and fantasizes about a remake of the ridiculous episode of the Leila islet.

“ These enclaves, located in an area of high geopolitical sensitivity and claimed by Morocco, thus benefit from a total investment of around one million euros intended to improve their security and operability,” adds the pure player who still hears the sound of boots coming from Morocco while nothing is less certain!

The project, valued at 600,000 euros and whose contract was recently published on the Spanish public procurement portal, includes the complete modernization of the aerial beacons. “ These devices are crucial for air navigation, as they allow identifying and locating these strategic points and thus improving the safety of aircraft flying over the area .”

The project also includes a series of improvements in their satellite communications system. “ These improvements focus on the satellite nodes of the I3D network, allowing any information to reach almost in real time any other military unit or command center. Thus, any type of incident or threat will be communicated to Madrid for decision-making,” maintains the Iberian media that sees danger everywhere.

But according to the specialist website Infodefensa, the delivery of this equipment is part of the improvement of the energy efficiency of the installations and the implementation of 5G technology in military barracks spread throughout the Spanish territory. A program financed by European funds, it should be remembered.

Accessible by sea and by air with helicopters, these islets are strategic for monitoring migratory flows and trafficking operations of all kinds. Several studies and analyses agree that these strategic points will be stormed by the mafias of irregular immigration when the classic route is further blocked or when the weather conditions do not allow the waves to be split towards the Andalusian coasts.

This episode already happened in 2019, when 57 would-be immigrants reached the Chafarinas Islands, mostly women and children. In short, the territorial war that a large part of the Spanish far-right fantasizes about will not happen… anytime soon!
