Investments in the Automotive Industry in Algeria: The Germans Get into the Race

The German authorities have expressed their willingness to invest in the automotive industry in Algeria. The parliamentary delegation of the Land of Bavaria (Germany), which met the Minister of Trade on Thursday, proposed two types of investment to Algeria.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Tayeb Zitouni indicated that these are “big investments” in the automotive industry for the production of light vehicles and trucks, while other suggestions of projects focus on the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector.

The talks between the two parties also focused on the means of developing economic relations between Algeria and Germany with a view to raising them to the level of political relations”, expressing “the will of the German delegation to inquire about close to investment opportunities in Algeria”.

For his part, the head of the German delegation, Thomas Kreuzer, reiterated his country’s desire “to consolidate bilateral Algerian-German relations”, by showing the interest of companies from his country to invest in Algeria.

He thus stressed that the Land of Bavaria, represented by the parliamentary delegation, was “not only an important industrial site in Germany, but also one of the richest regions”.

At the same time, he highlighted the quality of the Algerian-German relations which will be further strengthened in the future in several sectors, notably that of energy. As an indication, more than 60 German companies are currently active in Algeria.
