Industrial public sector: Producer prices rise in 3rd quarter of 2016

ALGIERS- The non-hydrocarbons industrial production prices of the public sector increased by 3.9% in the third quarter of 2016 compared to the same period of 2015, the National Statistics Office (ONS) told APS.

The industrial production prices index of the non-hydrocarbons public sector measures the progress of the factory prices of goods sold on the local market (products aimed for exports are not taken into account).

Concerning the sector of steel-manufacturing, steel, mechanical, electrical and electronic industries (ISMMEE), the producer prices increased by 1.6% during the third quarter compared to the same period of last year, mainly driven by the producer prices of the manufacturing sectors of metallic, mechanical and electrical intermediate goods, mechanical consumer goods.

In the industries of construction equipments, ceramic and glass, producer prices experienced a 0.5% rise resulting from an increase in prices of red products, cement and various construction materials.

The production prices in the sector of electrical power experienced a 21.7% rise.

As for the production prices in the sector of mines and quarries, they also experienced an upward trend with a 7.6% level in the wake of the rise in production prices of the production of the extraction of iron ore, mineral materials and phosphate.

For their part, the production prices of processed foodstuffs, tobacco, and matches increased by 5.9% following notably the rise in prices in the tobacco and matches industry.

For the textile and clothing industry, the production prices experienced a 0.7% increase in the third quarter of 2016, and those of the chemical, rubber and plastic industries were up 0.2%.

As for leather and shoes, the production prices stabilized during the third quarter of 2016 compared to the third quarter of 2015.
