The scientific consultative authority to support the implementation of Law No. 13.21 on the legal uses of cannabis was created last Saturday in Tangier.

This council is made up of doctors from many specialties, pharmacists, lawyers, economists, associative actors as well as journalists, said the body in a press release Monday, specifying that its creation intervenes in contribution to advice and consultations, to the horizon of promulgating an advanced law which takes into account the scientific and medical context so as to guarantee the societal interest at all levels.

The mission of the body will be consultative on the basis of the reports that it will draw up and which will include scientific, medical, industrial, therapeutic and societal aspects, “by benefiting from the experiences of the countries which have preceded us”, indicated Mr. Rabii Redouane, professor of medicine at the Mohammed VI University of Casablanca and coordinator of the body, quoted by the press release.

He said that the services of the body will concern the Moroccan legislator, farmers, manufacturers as well as investors who intend to invest in this promising sector.

The action charter adopted by the scientific advisory body to support the implementation of the law on legal uses of cannabis is part of the awareness among a set of legal, civil and media, and medical actors of the many and various promising perspectives to accompany the legislation and the application of this law on human health in general and the health of Moroccan citizens in particular, the statement said.

The action charter stipulates that the consultative body will soon be endowed with a legal framework that will help it to be a force of suggestion and advocacy and to conclude partnerships with public and private institutions and with companies, national and international laboratories, and research centers, in order to contribute in particular to a correct and healthy understanding of all the possibilities offered by this plant for uses relating to human health and to a broad awareness of the reality of the multiple health alternatives in several medical disciplines, said the same source.

This body also aims to support and strengthen the process of promulgation of this law and its proper implementation, to emphasize methods of civilized dialogue and objective persuasion based in particular on scientific evidence, openness to all international experiences, and scientific opinions in health matters.
