Four Algerian movies at 4th international Arab cinema meetings in Marseille

MARSEILLE-Sixty Arab movies including Algerian ones will be screened during the 4th Arab cinema meetings in Marseille scheduled between 30 November and 4 December.

The “à l’affiche” category, which presents works of renowned directors, includes two documentary films, namely “Algérie du possible” (Viviane Candas, 2016) and “Samir dans la poussière” (Samir in the dust) directed by Mohamed Ouzzine, one feature film “Le puits” (The Well) directed by Lotfi Bouchouchi, 2015 and one short film “L’moudja” (The Wave) directed by Amar Belkacemi.

Director Viviane Candas relates in the life of her father Yves Mathieu, one anti-colonialist activist and lawyer of the FLN through many interviews with his comrades.

“Samir dans la poussière” evokes “Sidi Amrou” cemetary located in the area around a river near Algeria-Morocco borders.

“Les puits” feature film, selected to represent Algeria at the 89th Oscars, suggests a new approach of crimes committed by France during the Liberation War and focuses on sufferings of the suffering of the population of a besieged Algerian southern village

The fourth movie “L’moudja” recounts the story of an Algerian journalist living in Europe, who decides to come back to his homeland in the 1990’s to write about suicides committed followings massive and arbitrary dismissals of workers.

In “cinéma émergents” category, the documentary film “Babor casanova” (Casanova boat) (2015) directed by Karim Sayad, will be screened during this event. The movie relates the story of two young fans of a football club living between their illegal parking and the stadium where they go every weekend.
