The chairman of the council of the Libyan national unity government, Fayez El Sarraj, finally reversed his decision to resign. On September 16, 2020, he expressed his desire to make this happen within a period not exceeding next October.

He explained this decision by the inability to reach a peace agreement in Libya. Several demonstrations had taken place to challenge the management of the government and the affairs of Libya. A new council was to be formed to administer a transition period of no more than 18 months.

According to a tweet from his spokesperson El Sarraj is postponing his departure in response to requests from the Parliament of Tripoli, from some leaders of foreign countries, including Germany and the UN Support Mission in Libya.

Namely that Tunisia will host the Libyan Dialogue Forum in Tunis on November 9 under the auspices of the United Nations.
