Algeria is ready to export 10,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity to Europe if the latter so wishes. This was indicated by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the interview granted to national media broadcast on Saturday evening.

President Tebboune affirmed that “we are ready to export electricity to Europe, as we assured the Europeans. If they wish, we are ready to export them at least 10,000 megawatts/day”.

The President of the Republic also mentioned the record figures for electricity consumption recorded this summer, with a historic peak of 18,697 megawatts recorded on July 23, the fourth of its kind in a month.

He said normal daily electricity consumption was between 10,000 and 11,000 megawatts, but rising temperatures and increased use of air conditioners nearly doubled electricity consumption, “yet there were no power outages. “.

“Sonelgaz and Sonatrach have achieved miraculous achievements: Sonatrach in terms of new discoveries, and Sonelgaz in increasing electricity production by at least 150%”, he underlined.

He added that Algeria’s production capacity exceeds 24,000 megawatts, making our country “the most powerful electricity producer in Africa”.
