Tunisia has achieved significant foreign exchange earnings through the export of agricultural products such as dates, citrus fruits, and olive oil.

For the 2023/2024 season, the export of olive oil began on November 1, 2023, and reached approximately 148.734 thousand tons until May 31, 2024, with an estimated value of 3963 million dinars, compared to 132.494 thousand tonnes the previous season, valued at 2099 million dinars. This represents an increase of 12.26% in terms of quantity and 88.8% in terms of value.

Date exports reached 111 thousand tons. For the 2023/2024 season, the export of dates began on October 7, 2023, and until May 7, 2024, approximately 111 thousand tons of Tunisian dates were exported, worth 716 million dinars, compared to 108 thousand tonnes the previous season, worth 664 million dinars, marking an increase of 2.7% in quantity and 7.8% in value.

Citrus exports for the 2023/2024 season were around 8,507 tonnes, worth 29.434 million dinars, compared to 7,614 tonnes the previous season, worth 25.496 million dinars, an increase of 11.8% in quantity.

Regarding cereals for the current season, initial assessments indicate an average to slightly below average harvest, but better than that of the previous season which recorded 5.3 million quintals, due to the lack of rain in last March which directly affected cereal yields.

Every year, Tunisia consumes around 36 million quintals of cereals, including hard and soft wheat, barley, etc. As a result, Tunisia will have to import additional quantities to cover its cereal needs in foreign currencies.
