The concern is growing in Algeria as the Delta variant gains ground and the number of new covid-19 contaminations increases. Also, to slow this spread, the government has taken the decision to extend the curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., previously set from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. This measure should come into force as of Monday, July 26, and will remain so for a period of 10 days, in the areas most affected by the covid-19 epidemic, ie 35 prefectures of the country.

Moreover, the government announced the implementation of new restrictive measures which f ermeture gyms, youth centers, cultural centers, recreational areas as well as beaches in the 35 prefectures.

Other restriction? The return of take-away sales for cafes and restaurants, again banned from serving customers at the table.

As for public and private urban transport, their circulation will be interrupted during weekends throughout the territory.

In addition, Algeria wishes to accelerate the vaccination campaign, in particular, “in the wilayas with high population density”, explained Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Immediate government objective? “Vaccinate 2.5 million people in Algiers and 50% of the populations of the wilayas of Oran, Constantine, Sétif and Ouargla.”
