COVID-19: Sharp Rise in Infections in Algeria

The number of new positive cases of Covid-19 in Algeria has increased sharply in the past 24 hours to approach the 900 marks.

After the drop recorded yesterday Sunday with 786 new cases against 813 Saturday and 831 Friday, the toll of new contaminations started to rise again on Monday, July 12.

According to the report of the Ministry of Health, 878 new cases have been identified in the last 24 hours in Algeria, bringing the total of contaminations to 146,960 since the start of the pandemic in February 2020 in the country.

Increase in the number of deaths

The number of Covid-19 deaths has also increased in the past 24 hours to reach 15 against 12 the day before, bringing the total of deaths caused by the coronavirus disease to 3,851 since the start of the epidemic in Algeria.

The number of people infected with covid, hospitalized in intensive care units, has decreased slightly in the past 24 hours, from 39 yesterday Sunday to 36 today Monday, July 12.

Algeria has been facing a worrying increase in the number of new cases of Covid-19 since early July. On July 9, the mark of 800 cases per day was crossed, a week after the country crossed the threshold of 400 infections per day.

To fight against the spread of Covid-19, the government announced yesterday Sunday a series of measures including the renewal of partial confinement (midnight – 4:00 a.m.) in 14 wilayas, the ban on marriage and circumcision ceremonies as well as the reactivation of barrier measures: compulsory mask-wearing and physical and social distancing.
