The Algerian Minister of Energy and the German State Secretary for the Economy and Climate Protection announced the strengthening of their cooperation within the framework of the transformation and extension of the current gas pipeline which connects the two countries. Ultimately, this will be transformed into a hydrogen transport pipeline between the two countries.

Algeria wants to become a major producer of green hydrogen and is pursuing its strategy to achieve this. After launching two major calls for tenders for the production of green hydrogen from giant solar farms installed in the Sahara desert; the Algerian government is working on developing infrastructure to transport it to Europe.

A major gas producer for the Old Continent, Algeria hopes to ultimately supply up to a tenth of European demand for green hydrogen. Considering the needs expressed, he knows that the objective is largely achievable, provided that he has the “right tips”.

By establishing a first official partnership with Germany, which plans to import 70% of its hydrogen needs and which has just joined the H2med project, the Algerian government knows that it will already find there a rapid outlet for its future production. In addition, the multiplication of pipeline projects, which will make it possible to link the European Union, will ultimately ensure that the volume is consistent with its objectives.
