The number of import invoices processed at the level of the services of the Ministry of Commerce and Export Promotion increased by 38% until November 30, the Minister of the sector, Tayeb Zitouni, said Thursday in Algiers.

During a plenary of the National People’s Assembly (APN) devoted to oral questions, Mr. Zitouni indicated that the services of the ministry had processed from January 1 to November 30, 2023, 29,660 invoices belonging to 6,788 importers worth $9.6 billion, an increase of 38.45% compared to the same period in 2022, during which 15,759 invoices belonging to 4,231 importers were processed, worth $3.7 billion.

The processing of import invoices by the Ministry of Commerce (via the national platform dedicated to the importation of raw materials and goods intended for resale as is ), is part of the measures aimed at rationalizing import operations without slowing them down, it is, therefore, a question of “complementary import”, according to the minister’s explanations in response to the question from MP (Independents), Massinissa Ouari on the procedures adopted to regulate imports.

These procedures had contributed, continued the minister, to “the expansion of the economic fabric and the transformation of numerous importers into manufacturers in the national market, thus allowing the creation of thousands of jobs”.

The measures taken by the State to regulate imports also made it possible to create an effective database which helped in making appropriate decisions, according to “a precise approach” in matters of foreign trade.

This approach allowed an effective rationalization of imports which fell to approximately 43 billion USD during the 11 months of the current year, compared to imports which had reached 60 billion USD during previous years, in addition to the achievement of a turnover “unprecedented in terms of non-hydrocarbon exports”, adds the minister.
