Algeria unveiled on Friday the list of 26 players selected to play in the next African Cup of Nations (from January 13 to February 11). Algerian coach Djamel Belmadi did not call up Saïd Benrahma but retained Riyad Mahrez, Houssem Aouar, and Youcef Atal – who has not played with Nice since mid-October.

Djamel Belmadi unveiled on Friday, December 29 the list of players who will wear the colors of Algeria in Ivory Coast during the next African Cup of Nations (CAN).

The Algerian coach did not summon West Ham player Saïd Benrahma, with whom he had a violent altercation widely commented on social networks during a friendly match against Egypt on October 16, even though the player had refused to greet the coach after being replaced.

On the other hand, he retained for CAN 2024 the neo-international Houssem Aouar as well as Youcef Atal, who has not played with Nice since mid-October, since he was prosecuted for having shared a video calling for “one day black on the Jews” after the attack of October 7. The Algerian defender had still started in the three matches played since by the Fennecs.

Several senior players from the Algerian selection, who won the CAN in 2019 such as Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani, and Ismaël Bennacer, will also be part of the adventure.

Algeria is in Group D with Angola, Burkina Faso and Mauritania.
