CAN 2023 Qualifiers: Morocco, First Qualified without Playing

Morocco has validated its ticket for the 2023 African Cup of Nations. This after the draw between South Africa and Liberia (2-2), this Friday, March 24, in group K.

An equalizing goal from Liberia in stoppage time gave qualification to the Atlas Lions of Morocco. In this group of three following the suspension of Zimbabwe, the Moroccans, winners of South Africa (2-1) and Liberia (2-0) during the first two days, are already guaranteed to be in the game in Ivory Coast.

This explains. Indeed, Liberia and South Africa have only two games to play each, including one against Morocco. So, if both teams beat Regragui’s band, they will be 4 points away and only one of the two can overtake Morocco in their direct confrontation.

Achraf Hakimi’s teammates are thus guaranteed to finish, at worst, second in this group. That’s why they are the first to qualify on the pitch.
