Blinken’s Deputy in Charge of Arms Control Visits Algeria

Senior American officials are increasing visits to Algeria. A week after the visit of the British Minister of the Armed Forces, it is the American Under-Secretary of State in charge of arms control who is announced in Algiers this Sunday, March 5 for a two-day visit.

Bonne D. Jenkins will meet with senior Algerian government officials during her visit to Algiers to discuss ”  matters of common interest, including efforts to deepen cooperation,” according to the US State Department, which announced the news in a  statement. bilateral security policy to address common regional security challenges”.

Assistant to the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in charge of arms control  “will also meet with ambassadors from like-minded diplomatic missions in Algiers to discuss regional security issues”.

This visit comes after the one made on Sunday, February 26 in Algeria by the British Minister for the Armed Forces during which he was received by the Chief of Staff of the ANP Army General Said Chanegriha and by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amar Belani.

“The UK is open and willing to cooperate with Algeria on defense industrialization,” he said in an interview with TSA  published on Wednesday, March 1. He explained that “countries like Algeria, as a regional leader, have a unique role to play in ensuring security and stability in North Africa and the Sahel”.

At the beginning of February, it was the head of the United States Command for Africa (Africom), General Michael Langley, who paid a visit to Algeria during which he was received by the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Army General Said Chanegriha.
