In recent days, we have witnessed a waltz of replacements for senior officials of public companies. A few days after the dismissal of the CEO of Air Algérie and his replacement, it is the turn of Algiers airport to experience a change.

Indeed, a press release from the Minister of Transport, made public on February 19, indicates that Colonel Mokhtar Saïd Mediouni has been appointed CEO of the Airport Infrastructure and Services Management Company ( SGISA ), which manages the international airport of ‘Alger.

This new director-general is appointed to replace Salah Kaouach, appointed to this position in November 2022 by the former Minister of Transport, Kamel Beldjoud. This now ex-DG had, for his part, succeeded Tahar Allache, dismissed on May 31, 2022, before being prosecuted and sentenced to a heavy prison sentence for acts linked to corruption.

Mokhtar-Saïd Mediouni, new CEO of Algiers airport

“ The Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport, Djamel-Eddine Abdelghani Dridi, supervised today, Monday, February 19, 2024, at Houari Boumediene International Airport, the installation of Mokhtar-Saïd Mediouni at the head of the Algiers Airport Services and Infrastructure Management Company (SGSIA) replacing Mohamed-Salah Kaouach,” indicates the press release from the Ministry of Transport.

It must be said that the press release does not reveal any information concerning the reasons for the dismissal of Salah Kaouach. The director who has just been appointed is a retired ANP colonel, a regular on television. He is particularly known to Algerians for his interventions in private channels during the Hirak period. He then became a columnist for the El Hayat TV channel.

This change at the head of Algiers airport comes a few days after the replacement of the CEO of Air Algérie. Indeed, on February 7, Yacine Benslimane was fired from the company, after 19 months in his position. He was replaced by Hamza Benhamouda.
