Algeria Will Soon End the Import of Industrial Oils

The President of the Hydrocarbons Regulatory Authority (ARH), Rachid Nadil, said yesterday Sunday that three investors have started manufacturing industrial oils in Algeria, in a way that will put an end to the import of these oils, reports National Radio.

Rachid Nadil stressed that these are Algerian investors and a foreigner, which will put an end to the import of industrial oils, according to the same media.

He indicated that Algeria’s gasoline production capacity stands at 4 million tons, while consumption was 3.3 million tons in 2022, compared to 3.4 million tons in 2021. He specified that diesel consumption exceeds 10.1 million tonnes in 2022, against 9.7 million tonnes in 2021.

The same official indicated that the current investment of Sonatrach in diesel will allow Algeria to increase the production capacity exceeding the level of consumption.

And to continue: “We consumed 17.7 million tonnes of oil resources in 2022, an increase of 3% compared to 2021, and 15.7 million tonnes of fuel were consumed, including 10 million tonnes of diesel, an increase of 4% compared to 2021, and the decrease in gasoline consumption during the same year.

Nadel mentioned the increase in the consumption of liquefied petroleum gas by 1.550 million tons, an increase of 20%, which Algeria produces in sufficient quantity.
