Indeed, it has been several months now since Algeria decided to suspend the friendship, cooperation and good neighborliness agreement with Spain, something that has caused a crisis in relations between the two countries. As a result, the Spanish economy is suffering massive repercussions as a result of this decision.

First of all, it will be recalled that the decision which stipulates the suspension of relations with Spain is occurred following the declarations of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez. In detail, Pedro Sanchez suddenly announced a change of position, thus supporting the Moroccan position which encourages self-governance. Algeria, for its part, did not hesitate to react. To this end, it took some decisions to complete the suspension of the friendship agreement. 

These include the reduction of gas exports to Madrid. To tell the truth, it didn’t take long for the Spanish government to realize that it had made a mistake! Especially since the first signs of the crisis did not take long to appear. According to the latest news, losses in the ceramics sector are estimated at 40 million euros these months!

Algeria does not accept Spanish products from other countries!

In fact, several sectors have been affected by this crisis, in particular that of ceramics. Indeed, this sector requires high consumption of gas, at a time when Spain is suffering from a shortage of this raw material. In the same vein, it should be noted that Algeria is the first importer of Spanish ceramics after Italy. 

However, Algeria no longer imports the product in question because of the diplomatic rupture. Moreover, it does not even accept Spanish products from other countries. To this end, Spanish employers insist on the importance of resolving the problem as soon as possible. 

Especially since it is an estimated loss of 40 million euros. And this, according to the revelations of the employers’ association “ANFFECC”, was reported by the Spanish media. In fact, the crisis is not limited to the aforementioned sector, it has spread to other sectors. 

Like the export of red meat, paper and other materials needed for pharmaceutical production, indeed, Algerian importers have found other suppliers such as Turkey, China and Italy.
