Algeria: Sonatrach CEO Calls on African Countries to “Unify Visions” for Hydrocarbon Production

Toufik Hakkar insists on the “need to unify visions and share roles among African countries to meet the demands imposed by global energy markets”

The CEO of the Algerian public hydrocarbon group Sonatrach , Toufik Hakkar (photo), called on June 21 in Skikda, 493km east of the capital Algiers, African companies to make new discoveries to increase production hydrocarbons; while also emphasizing the “need for unifying visions and sharing roles among African countries to meet the demands imposed by global energy markets”.

Hakkar, who was chairing the first forum of directors of oil and gas training institutions from member states of the African Petroleum Producers Organization ( APPO ), in a speech reported by the APS news agency, called for “redouble efforts to make new discoveries that would increase production, on the one hand, and on the other hand provide a stable source of raw materials for the revival of petrochemical industries” .

The CEO of Sonatrach said that efforts should be “intensified to consolidate Africa’s role and its ability to take advantage of its natural resources, strengthen economic integration, increase the sense of collective responsibility and facilitate the exchange of expertise and technologies in the field of energy between its countries, which will benefit its peoples” .
