On the Algerian economic horizon, brilliant news has just emerged, bringing a wind of renewal in the field of tourism and monetary exchanges. The Algerian Finance Department recently initiated a long-awaited revision of the tourist allowance, as well as the upcoming opening of foreign exchange offices for tourists and travelers.

This announcement resonates like a melodious symphony, as it carries promises of dynamism and openness to the outside world. Players in the tourism sector will thus be able to benefit from a new economic impetus, allowing them to fully contribute to the international influence of the country.

Towards an increase in the tourist allowance in Algeria: a glimmer of hope for travelers?

Algeria is facing major economic and financial challenges which have forced the government to take measures to improve the situation. In this context, the Algerian Minister of Finance, Laaziz Faid, recently announced during a plenary session at the APN the realization of a study on the increase of the tourist allowance as well as the opening of exchange offices. in the country.

The question of increasing the tourist allowance was at the center of the discussions during this plenary session. Since its introduction in 1997, the annual amount of this allowance has never been increased, which is considered insufficient by many Algerians.

Currently set at 15,000 Algerian dinars (DZD), or about 100 euros, this amount does not cover the costs of Algerian travelers abroad, forcing them to resort to the black market for currencies. This practice exposes travelers to high rates, especially for the euro which is exchanged at more than 210 Algerian dinars (DZD).

The President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, had promised to rectify the value of this allowance and to increase it to the tune of 1,500 euros to preserve the dignity of Algerians. A promise that has not yet been implemented, the Algerian authorities have justified this situation by the current state of foreign exchange reserves, which does not allow such an increase.

Faced with this situation, the NPC deputies called for a revision of the amount of the tourist allowance according to the new economic data, in particular the world inflation. Such a review is considered more than urgent to improve the conditions of travel for Algerians abroad.

The Algerian government is preparing to open foreign exchange offices to strengthen its foreign exchange reserves

The issue of opening exchange offices was also discussed during this plenary session. The Minister of Finance announced that the Central Bank of Algeria is currently working on the implementation of regulatory texts relating to the creation and operation of these offices, which will be ready as soon as the law on currency and credit comes into force. . These can be opened in various strategic points such as airports, ports, tourist areas, major cities and wilayas to attract foreign currency.

By revising the profit margin of these offices, the Algerian authorities hope to stimulate the influx of foreign currency into the country. This measure is considered necessary to strengthen foreign exchange reserves and improve the country’s economic situation.
