Hundreds of workmates, students, friends and representatives of The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, besides to higher ranked authorities, have attended, Wednesday, the funerals of late Djaffour Mustapha, Rector of Abou-Bakr-Belkaïd University of the western province of Tlemcen, died on Tuesday ,October 23, aged 54, following an incurable disease. The news of his death has thrown a stir not only in the region but hit the whole university community.

Professor Mustapha Djaffour was officially appointed at the head of the University Abu Bakr Belkaid of the province of Tlemcen, western Algeria , in July 2015 replacing Professor Nourredine Ghouali, appointed to the position of Director General of Education and Post-Graduation at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The health of the Rector began to deteriorate few months after being in charge of the university. However, his total fulfilment and commitment to the benefit of higher education and scientific research has always been stronger .Though he suffered from cancer disease that disabled him for a long period, Mister Djaffour has rarely missed the academic meetings, scientific events and seminars that took place at the university. Indeed, he has often taken the floor to address the students, teachers and employees to incite them to face challenges. The Rector was mainly known for his sense of communication and readiness to give a hand whenever consulted.

Professor Mustapha Djaffour, born in 1964 in Tlemcen, has occupied several functions in the field of scientific research. He was, since 2008, vice-rector at Abou-Bakr-Belkaïd University of Tlemcen, in charge of international relations. He got his baccalaureate in 1983, studied at the University of Oran where he obtained a diploma in civil engineering, then carried out post-graduation studies to get Magister then Doctorate in civil engineering. Late Djaffour Mustapha has been director of the Institute of Civil Engineering at the level of the technological pole and engineering sciences of Chetouane (Tlemcen). His disease forced him to step away these last months. Since then, he was replaced by Dr. Djawed Zendagui, his Vice Rector.
