Muslims and Christians gathered Saturday evening in the Notre-Dame d’Afrique basilica in Algiers to pray for peace in the Middle East.

Around 200 people, including foreign diplomats and association leaders, responded to the call of the Catholic Church of Algeria to pray for peace in the Gaza Strip.

Among the guests, were the Ambassador of Palestine, Fisent Mohamed Mahoum Abu Aita, the Archbishop of Algiers, Jean-Paul Vesco, and the president of the Algerian association Passerelles de la Paix, Youcef Mecheria. The latter conveyed a message of peace that Christians and Muslims favorably received.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, raging fighting has taken precedence over negotiations. Israel recalled its emissaries from Qatar. Hamas claims that dozens of captives have died since October 7 in the bombings. Israeli authorities confirmed this for seven of them. The organization wants an end to Israeli strikes before discussing.
