Algeria Calls for International Action for Palestine

At the emergency Arab meeting held in Cairo, Egypt, to discuss the escalation of Israeli occupation in occupied Palestine, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf outlined five key facts regarding the situation in Palestine.

The Suffering of the Palestinian People

The first fact highlighted by Minister Attaf is that the Palestinian people suffer enormously from international indifference to the oppression, injustice and tyranny they endure. Despite the suffering endured by these people, international attention and action remain insufficient to address their needs and rights.

Lack of Diplomatic Priority

The second fact highlighted is the striking absence of the Palestinian question from the priorities of the international diplomatic agenda. There have been no serious initiatives for peace in the past two decades, and the Palestinian issue appears to have lost its central place in global diplomatic efforts.

The Threat to the Two-State Solution

The third fact concerns the marked decline in the prospects of achieving the two-state solution on the ground. The Israeli occupation continues to annex Palestinian land and build more settlements, seriously undermining the viability of this solution and the self-determination of the Palestinian people.

Racist Policies in Jerusalem

The fourth fact highlights the racist policies imposed by the Zionist regime in occupied Jerusalem. These policies aim to erase the identity of this sacred city and change its current situation by falsifying facts and changing designations. This is part of a larger project of Judaization of Jerusalem.

Unity on the Palestinian Question

The fifth fact concerns the futile attempts to separate Middle East peace issues from the Palestinian question. This goes against legitimate resolutions of the United Nations and the Arab Peace Initiative, which view the achievement of peace in the Middle East as intrinsically linked to a fair and lasting resolution of the Palestinian question.

The Algerian Foreign Minister underlined the special responsibility of the Arab community in providing international protection to the Palestinian people and in revitalizing the peace process based on the clear references set out by international legitimacy.

Algeria, under the initiative of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is also working to reconcile the Palestinians, unite their ranks and strengthen their influence on the peace process. This approach aims to ensure that the international community effectively assumes its responsibilities towards Palestinian rights.

The minister also called for a united response to skeptical voices at the international and regional level, emphasizing that Palestinians have an absolute right, recognized by the United Nations and international legitimacy. Their cause remains sacred, and it is time to realize it fully.
