Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebounne has appointed two Algerian consuls to Morocco, according to Algerian media. These are Hicham Farhati in Oujda and Belghith Djoudi in Casablanca.

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated, in a press release dated Tuesday, March 26, 2024, that these appointments, which also include 28 ambassadors and six consuls in different countries, “aim to improve the performance of diplomatic work, in the context of current issues, and to guarantee optimal care for communities.”

The appointment of the two Algerian consuls to Morocco comes in a context of crisis between Rabat and Algiers, caused by Algeria’s unilateral severance of its diplomatic relations with Morocco on August 24, 2021. Algeria has not yet not yet appointed an ambassador to Rabat.
