Algeria: Annual inflation rate reaches 7% in March 2017

ALGIERS- The evolution of the annual rate of consumer prices stood at 7% until the end of March 2017, said the National Office of Statistics.

The evolution of the annual rate of consumer prices in March 2017 is the average annual inflation rate calculated by taking into account twelve (12) months from April 2016 to March 2017 compared with the period from April 2015 to March 2016.

Concerning the monthly variation of consumer prices, i.e. the evolution of the index for the month of March 2017 compared with that of February 2017, it reached 1.6%

On the basis of the monthly variation of consumer prices, the prices of foodstuffs rose by 1.8% in March compared with a month earlier.

The prices of fresh farm products were marked by an increase of 3.8%, i.e. chicken (+12.6%), fruits (+7.8%), vegetables (+8%) and potatoes (+9.8%), while red meat and eggs recorded a drop estimated at -0.7% and -4.8%, respectively.
