The Qatari channel Al Jazeera broadcast a documentary on the historic former leader of the National Liberation Front during the national liberation war, Krim Belkacem. The channel looked at the assassination of the leader of the Algerian revolution in Germany in 1970. The National Mujahideen Organization (ONM) was quick to react to this documentary via its secretary-general, Mohand Ouamar Benlhadj.

Entitled “Des ends troubles”, the program of Al-Jazeera had evoked the death of one of the greatest leaders of the Algerian revolution, Krim Belkacem. According to confidential documents it has, Al-Jazeera claims that Krim Belkacem was murdered in a hotel in Frankfurt, Germany by three people, who first drugged him before killing him. The three assassins, two of whom have been identified, have been on the run since that day, according to the same source, who added that the German secret services had ordered to keep this affair secret and not to inform the media for political reasons.

Moreover, the documentary reveals that investigators had found secret notes written by Krim Belkacem. These were the prelude to “violent political action aimed at overthrowing the regime in Algiers”, indicates the Qatari channel.

Who is behind the murder of Krim Belkacem?

In addition, the Al-Jazeera channel affirmed that the murder of the leader of the Algerian revolution remains a mystery. “Some accuse the Algerian authorities of the time who saw in Krim Belkacem a threat to the regime, others point to foreign offices who sought to provoke a civil war in Algeria, while still others do not exclude the involvement of the French and Israeli secret services ”, underlines the same source.

National Mojahedin Organization (ONM) reacts

The National Mujahideen Organization (ONM) reacted via a video message produced by the organization’s secretary-general, Mohand Ouamar Benlhadj. The latter has indeed severely criticized the Qatari channel Al Jazeera which “went to investigate even in Israel, just to try to demonstrate that Krim Belkacem had contact with the Jews”.

“We are not surprised by what she says about our internal affairs,” said Mohand Ouamar Benlhadj. And to recall that Al Jazeera had already “interfered already during the Hirak so that the Amazigh flag is banned”. The SG of the ONM also reproached those questioned in Algeria for having spoken when they “are not custodians of the truth and of the history of Algeria”. According to him, the fault lies with “the Algerians who continue to make statements to this channel”. Before expressing his regret that it is “them who are investigating an Algerian zaïm”.

On the death of Krim Belkacem, Mohand Ouamar Benlhadj confided that there were several theses on this subject. But according to him, “the Algerians are primarily responsible for his death, even if the hand that executed him is foreign”, because “we have never asked the Germans for any answers on the circumstances of his death”, he explained.
