Air Algérie: Finally a Real Resumption of Flights?

Algeria’s borders have been partially open for almost 11 months. Since June 1,  2021, international commercial flights have resumed without interruption.

Air Algérie and several foreign airlines have seen their programs gradually enriched. The last update was made at the end of March, with the addition of 64 new flights per week for Air Algérie and as many as for its competitors.

Despite this reinforcement, the offer of flights to Algeria remains insufficient, very far from its levels before the health crisis. The offer is already insufficient and many Air Algérie flights, especially those scheduled during the Eid-el Fitr period and for the summer holidays, are already full.

Flights to Algeria: prices are on the rise again

Result: after the decline observed during the first two weeks of April, thanks to the launch of promotional offers from Air Algérie, we are witnessing a rise in the price of plane tickets, particularly from France.

But things could soon turn in the right direction for Algerian travelers. Indeed, this Sunday, April 24, during the meeting of the Council of Ministers, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune ordered his Minister of Transport to ” initiate ” a revision of the prices of plane and boat tickets for the benefit of Algerians from the stranger.

Air Algérie: President Tebboune’s instructions

The press release from the Council of Ministers also mentions a “  reinforcement of flights in anticipation of the summer season”.

Concretely, to achieve the objective of lowering prices, only one solution is available to the government: to significantly increase the number of international flights, in particular with the most popular destinations, such as France.

Currently, we are at 30% of Air Algérie’s usual annual program (50% with France). Only a total opening of the borders, with a 100% recovery on the main destinations, would be able to achieve the objective set by the Head of State: to increase the number of services and allow Algerians from abroad to travel at low prices.

But the opening must intervene quickly to allow Algerians abroad to organize themselves in view of the great departures of the summer holidays.
