After Lavrov, an Important Russian Military Official Goes to Algeria

Algeria Russia: Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Viktor Bondarev, a military official, will pay an official visit to Algeria, starting tomorrow Tuesday until Friday next.

This visit comes at the invitation of the President of the National Assembly, Saleh Koujil, which is part of the strengthening of Algerian-Russian bilateral relations, according to a statement from the National Assembly.

The legislative institution explained that this visit is part of the activation of the bilateral parliamentary cooperation protocol signed between the National Assembly and the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.

The Russian official will be received by the heads of the National People’s Congress and the National Assembly, and he will also meet with senior state officials.

It should be noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently arrived in Algeria.

The Russian Foreign Minister revealed that the two countries intended to sign a strategic agreement that would reflect the new quality of bilateral relations between Algeria and Moscow.

On the other hand, the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, Lieutenant-General Said Chanegriha, received last March the Director of the Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Shugayev.

The two sides held talks on military cooperation between the two countries and exchanged analyzes and views on issues of common concern.

Who is Viktor Bondarev?

Bondarev is considered one of the most important Russian military figures, as he held several sensitive and strategic positions.

Bondarev previously served as the First Deputy Commander of the Russian Air Force, then was appointed Commander of the Russian Air Force.

The Russian military official graduated from the Air Force Higher College and later from the Russian General Staff Military Academy, according to Russia Today.

Bondarev received the Champion of Russia award in 2005.
