7 countries meeting in Algiers: the crisis in Libya on the agenda

Seven countries of the Libyan neighborhood will meet for two days from Monday, August 30, 2021 in Algeria with the
aim of establishing a roadmap for the holding of elections in Libya on schedule.

The foreign ministers of seven countries, namely Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Niger, Chad and the Republic of
Congo, will therefore be meeting this Monday in Algeria to establish a roadmap for the holding of elections in Libya
on schedule “in order to achieve lasting peace”.

In addition to the diplomacy of the seven participating countries, the SG of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the
Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union, Bankole Adeoye and the special envoy of
the SG of the UN for Libya, Jan Kubis, will also take part in this meeting.

The holding of the elections scheduled for December on the agenda
The ministerial meeting will discuss ways to overcome the obstacles to the holding of these elections scheduled for
December, by bringing together the general conditions for the success of this electoral event in a consensual
framework.

It should be remembered that this meeting comes after the one hosted by Algeria in January 2020, in which seven
foreign ministers from countries neighboring Libya participated.
Also recalling that on the eve of today’s meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad,
Ramtane Lamamra , met with his two Tunisian and Congolese counterparts, Othman El-Grandi and Jean Claude
Gakosso, about the same meeting.
