The house arrest of the vice-president of the Ennahdha Movement, Noureddine Bhiri, and the former executive of the Ministry of the Interior, Fathi Beldi, has been lifted, we learn from a press release published on Monday evening. March 7 by the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior.

Without naming names, the statement from the Interior Department indicates that the house arrest for “threats to national security”, in force since December 31, 2021, of “two individuals” has been lifted. They are Noureddine Bhiri, leader of Ennahdha and Fethi Beldi, a former official of the Ministry of the Interior, placed under house arrest, respectively in Bizerte and Manouba, since last December 31.

The ministry would like to point out that the house arrest was decided within the framework of “total respect for human rights”, stressing that the two people concerned had the right to the visits and the required medical care. The ministry explains that the installation, Monday, of the Provisional Superior Council of the Judiciary allowed this lifting of the house arrest for the two people.

As a reminder, the new members of the Provisional Judicial Council were sworn in on Monday morning before the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, during a ceremony that took place at the Carthage Palace.

Tunisian justice “will now take charge” of the case of these two “individuals”, says the press release. And the statement concludes that the governors of Bizerte and La Manouba have been responsible for executing the lifting of the house arrest.
