Suspected of financial corruption, the president of the FTF was placed in pre-trial detention while waiting to appear in court.

The president of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), Wadi Jary, was arrested this Thursday, following a complaint filed against him by the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

Ministry spokesperson Chokri Hamda clarified, in a statement to local radio “IFM”, that the case concerns the contract concluded with the former technical director of the FTF, Sghaier Zouita. The contract would not comply with the administrative procedure and Tunisian legislation in force.

“The function of technical director is governed by decree no. 77-552 of June 20, 1977. He must be appointed by decree and not by contract. The federation did not respect Tunisian law… The president of the FTF will appear before the investigating judge,” he added without providing further details.

It should be noted that numerous disagreements between the president of the Football Federation and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Kamel Deguich, have marked Tunisian football.

Jary had even, in November 2021, made the Minister of Sports responsible for any physical, material, or moral harm suffered by himself or any member of his family.
