Canada is a country that is attracting more and more Algerians. The North American country offers enormous opportunities for Algerian migrants in terms of employment and settlement. Thus, the number of visas issued by Canada to Algerians has seen a significant increase.

In 2023, the number of visas issued by Canada to Algerians will reach nearly 47,700. These visas are divided into several categories: approximately 35,000 tourist visas, 9,000 study visas for Algerian students wishing to continue their training in Canadian universities, 3,000 work visas, and 700 residence visas. These figures were given by Michael Callan, the Canadian ambassador to Algeria, during a press conference held at the embassy.

The diplomat also said that Canada and Algeria are considering increasing the number of direct flights between the two countries. Currently, only about ten direct flights are in service. The increase in flights would meet growing demand, but this requires negotiations between the authorities of the two countries, particularly in the field of air transport.

The ambassador highlighted the role of the Algerian community established in Canada, which numbers about 130,000 people, in strengthening ties between the two countries. These residents not only contribute to bringing Algerian and Canadian cultures closer together but also to promoting common interests.

He indicated that more than 100 Canadian companies are already present in Algeria, and several others wish to strengthen their presence in the long term, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, service infrastructure, information and technology technologies. communication.

In 2023, trade between Algeria and Canada exceeded 1.5 billion Canadian dollars, or approximately 150 billion Algerian dinars. Algeria is Canada’s main trading partner in Africa and the fourth largest worldwide. Canadian companies aspire to increase this trade volume in the years to come. The ambassador also welcomed recent reforms in Algeria, including the new investment law, which makes the Algerian market even more attractive to foreign investors.
