South Korean Group to Produce Anti-Cancer Drugs in Algeria

The Algerian-Korean partnership project in the production of anticancer drugs is taking shape, with the first stage of packaging in Algeria in Saidal units of drugs from the CKD OTTO group.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 23 by the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry in a press release. And this at the end of an audience granted by Minister  Djamel Lotfi Benbahmed to a delegation from the Korean pharmaceutical group led by its CEO In Hyun Baik. The CEO of the Saïdal group, Fatoum Akacem, was also present.

The boss of the Korean group “presented a report on the state of progress of the partnership between the public group Saidal and the South Korean group following the signing in December 2020 of a memorandum of understanding for the production of products. of oncology”, specifies the same source.

The first stage of this project consists of the packaging of the Korean group’s drugs in Algeria, starting next December.

In a second stage, the Saidal group will produce cancer drugs directly and in partnership with CKD OTTTO in a new factory in Constantine.

A first in Algeria

“With a gradual integration, the Algerian-Korean partnership will begin with the first stage of secondary packaging, before extending to full-process and to the production of raw materials by 2023, which will allow Saidal to play a role in meeting the needs for oncology products which regularly experience disruptions in terms of availability,” explains the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry.

Lotfi Benbahmed’s department stresses that this partnership will enable Saidal to “contribute to the health sovereignty” of Algeria and “constitute a lever of economic growth for the country”.

The ministry specifies that this project will introduce for the “first time the production of raw material in Algeria” whose import bill for anticancer drugs is close to 600 million dollars per year. “The transfer of technology will be total for the benefit of Saidal,” an official source told TSA.

The Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry affirms to have expressed the “full support of the Algerian authorities for the realization of this beneficial partnership project for the two companies and has expressed their support to them so that they can achieve the objectives set out on time. expected and thus meet the health priorities and economic development of the country.”
