Veteran coach Rabeh Saadane was named Algeria coach for a fifth spell on Sunday, few days following the sacking of Spanish manager Lucas Alcaraz.
Alcarez was named Algeria coach in April, replacing Belgian Georges Leekens who quit after Algeria’s early exit at the African Nations Cup finals in Gabon in January.
The former Granada coach was dismissed following Algeria’s catastrophic failure in the World Cup qualifiers, having collected only one point in five matches to miss out on a place in next year’s Russia finals. Algeria were one of Africa’s five representatives at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
Saadane, 71 years, led Algeria at the 1986 and 2010 World Cups. He is the fifth coach to take charge of the Desert Warriors in 18 months.
