Air Algérie: Pilots Sound the Alarm

Seen from the outside, one has the impression that the national flag has passed the zone of turbulence and Air Algérie is in a phase of stability.

The airline has restarted part of its flight schedule. She has even launched promotions that are not limited in time. Ticket prices from France have dropped significantly in recent times.

In fact, social protest within Air Algérie is growing day after day and the malaise is real. The pilots do not hide their dissatisfaction and their concerns.

In a press release published this Sunday, April 17, the Syndicat des Pilotes de Ligne Algériens (SPAL), the main trade union organization of Air Algérie, warns of a bleak future that would await the national airline if actions are not taken to control the situation.

Air Algérie: the management accused of laxity by the pilots

The SPLA accuses the management of  Air Algérie of “laxity” and “poor management” which have accentuated the crisis that the company is experiencing, particularly following the long period of shutdown due to the pandemic.

“The direct result of this policy is a massive departure of Pilots which is looming in the very short term in favor of competing companies internationally”, warns the SPLA.

The SPLA calls on “the competent authorities to intervene energetically to rectify this chaotic situation in the supreme interest of the national flag”.

The Air Algerie pilots’ union had already protested last December by instructing its members to refuse to operate long-haul flights (Montreal and Beijing) to protest against the suspension of mission expenses on these lines.

The situation has therefore only worsened since this period and the showdown between the SPLA and the management could lead to a real drain on pilots who have serious desires to look elsewhere.
