Maritime Rescue forces in Spain at sunrise Tuesday rescued about 60 migrants – including 20 minors – who were trying to reach the country’s coast aboard two boats.
The migrants were rescued at four and eight miles southwest of Barbate, in the province of Cadiz in Spain’s Andalusia region.
Fifty-four of the migrants, who were of Maghrebi origin, were traveling on an inflatable dinghy intercepted last night by rescue boats in the waters of the Strait of Gibraltar.
They were transferred to the port of Barbate, where they were assisted by Red Cross volunteers, emergency service sources said.
Some were suffering from hypothermia and were taken to hospital.
During the night, Maritime Rescue crews also spotted a wooden boat with six people aboard, including two minors and a woman, all from the Maghreb. They were taken at sunrise Tuesday to the port of Barbate
