RELIZANE (Algeria)- Algerian athletes Mohamed Mokdad and Larbi Belmokaddem ranked respectively first and second at the world jiu-jitsu championships (men and women), hosted by the United States, the national coach said Monday.ย
Coach Rabah Rezzoug said that in the -74 kg events, Mohamed Mokdad, from Algiers, won a gold medal and Larbi Belmokaddem, from Relizane, received a silver medal, while the bronze medal went to a US athlete.
Larbi Belmokaddem expressed his joy for having honoured Algeria, adding that the achievement was “the outcome of the support of his coach and his big brother.”
More than 3,000 athletes from 42 countries, including three Algerians, competed in the championships hosted by the US state of California, according to the national coach.
