The World Bank has decided to lift the suspension of disbursements for projects and programs in Mali.
This announcement was made in correspondence sent Tuesday to the Malian authorities.
It had suspended its disbursements last April because of the accumulation of maturities under the service of the external public debt for more than 45 days, had indicated the Malian Minister of the Economy in a correspondence signed on April 14 addressed to the Projects and Programs coordinators.
“I am sending you, attached, a copy of the correspondence of Mr. Ousmane Diagana, Vice-President for West and Central Africa of the World Bank, relating to the lifting of the suspension of disbursements,” said Clara de Sousa Director of Operations for Mali, Burkina, Niger and Chad West and Central Africa region.
As a reminder, the Malian Minister of Economy announced last April that “the sanctions of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) of January 9, 2022, had prevented the Government of Mali from honoring its commitments in respect of the service of the external public debt”.
